Akzo Nobel has received the sought-after Motor Trader Industry Award 2006 for Innovation for its revolutionary new clearcoat, Autoclear UV.

The clearcoat which harnesses the power of UV to dry in just 6 minutes is an industry first, with the potential to radically improve bodyshop capacity.

The judges praised Autoclear UV’s “truly unique paint drying process” and its “dramatic effect on reducing job times in busy bodyshops.” Also noted were the “exceptional improvements in drying time” and “the results are of the very highest quality.”

Keith Malik from Akzo Nobel, who received the award on the night commented, “Autoclear UV is a revolution in paint technology which is bringing quite outstanding improvements to our customers’ operations. We are delighted that this has been recognised by the Motor Trader judges.”

Based on patented technology, Autoclear UV is a 3 component system comprising of a clearcoat, hardener and a special activator similar to conventional clearcoats. After exposing Autoclear UV to UV light at a distance of 20 cm for a few seconds, after 6 minutes, the panels are dry enough to be handled, enabling them to be refitted to the vehicle immediately after curing
