When Honda was looking to create an eye-catching vehicle to promote the stunning new 2006 Civic, they called in Sikkens to get the perfect result. They wanted to apply a dramatic union jack design to the new Honda Civic to promote the fact that the cars are made in Britain.

Preparations to ensure the flag was exactly right took some time, with the dimensions, orientation and pantones all needing to be verified. Then, before the design could be applied the car had to be resprayed white, as the original car was Champagne Silver.

“The masking for the union jack stripes alone took two days as the stripes needed to be meticulously lined up,” said Richard Howick, the Sikkens technical sales representative who carried out the job.

Once the stripes had been applied, the car was finished with the new Sikkens clearcoat, Autoclear LV Superior. Then the car was reflatted and a further application of clearcoat was applied to avoid any ridges from the striping.

“The finished vehicle looks stunning. We are absolutely delighted with the result,” commented John Smith, Bodyshop Manager for the Honda (UK) distribution centre where the car was refinished.

The vehicle will tour Honda promotional events across the UK throughout 2006.
